What Is Dry Eye?

Dry eye is a common condition that occurs when your tears cannot adequately lubricate your eyes. This happens when your eyes either don't produce enough tears, or the tears produced are of poor quality and evaporate too quickly. The tear film, a crucial layer on the eye's surface, helps keep your eyes healthy, lubricated, and clear.

Think of it this way: The tear film is like a protective shield for your eyes, made up of three layers: oil, water, and mucus. If any of these layers are unbalanced, the tear film can become unstable, leading to the discomfort of dry eyes.
